I've already managed to set up myQNAPcloud and can access my data via this service on my iPhone/iPad via the various QNAP apps, but is this basically QNAP's name for a VPN? And if so, if I were to set all my devices to access my NAS this way, would it somehow know to route traffic so that when I'm connected to my home network then data takes that 'shorter route' between my NAS and my device, rather than going all the way through the internet to get to my NAS? People have suggested setting up a VPN on my NAS and then setting up my devices as clients to 'point' to the NAS so that for all intents and purposes it thinks my NAS is a 'local' drive, even when I'm accessing it via the internet from the other side of the world. via apps like Kodi (XBMC) while I'm out of the country. So I've been asking friends about setting up my devices (iPhone, Macbook etc.) to access my NAS via the internet when I'm away from home, so I can watch my video collection etc.
